Chimpanzees Blog

"We have the chimps in captivity, they can not return to the wild. We should be able to do with chimps what we do with humans." Roughly 700 chimps remain in captivity they are being used in laboratories performing experiments that will either help us in the future, or leave us back to where we started. Alamogordo Primate Facility in New Mexico has 186 chimps that have been the subjects to their experiments long enough to be called veterans. These chimps have performed a number of test mainly to find a cure for HIV or hepatitis C, there is a belief that it is wrong to continue testing on these animals because of all the experiments they have performed in the past. "Most of these Chimpanzees are older and have already been subjected to years of invasive research." says the worlds best-known primatologist. So from this what are your opinions? I believe that animal testing is wrong to a certain point. If you test on animals for the products we humans are going to use or need in the future, well that's wrong because we should test on ourselves, testing on the animals could give us in accurate test results that don't apply to us. If you are testing animals for other animal products then that is okay, because the product is for the animal and you may be more likely to get accurate test results. Although there are some test that i am okay with, right now the Shriners hospital is doing some stem cell experiments on paralyzed animals to make them un-paralyzed this research may actually be the cure to my little brother's problem. If the Shiners is testing on animals to find a cure for the damage spinal cord i say do it!
